I was coming home from a movie last Wednesday night when I came to a T intersection. One of these was in the lane next to me and I didn't give it much attention. Light turns green and we both go left. I proceeded to drive my normal pace through the area and then he caught up to me. He paced me for a second then accelerated.
I just kept going my pace. Then he slowed down until I was next to him. He paced my car again and then accelerated. I knew that he was trying to race me at this point, but I don't do that shit. He continued to do this a few more times and each time I flicked him off. It was genuinely making me angry.
I'm sorry if I made him think that I street race by having an E36 with a loud exhaust. But, I really hope he gets a big ticket before he kills someone doing this. He doesn't deserve a Passat W8 4-Motion wagon.

Tickets are expensive and crashing is even more so.

Ugh I hate that. Stupid E36s with loud exhausts. Find me a stock muffler.

The fine for racing here is 9800 USD.

What I would've done:
Waited until the next light.
Revved a ton to make him think we were going on green.
Not actually go.
Watch his car explode.
It would be sad to see the car go, but asshats deserve that shit.

Didn't happen upon another red light.

That's not supposed to be loud...

It is when you cut out the resonators and golf tee the muffler's butterfly valve...
I made it loud because it made it easier to drive. Especially that day the gauge cluster decided to not work and I had to drive home.

Ah.
I've never driven one with a stock muffler. Still haven't found one for super cheap.

You should have rolled down the window, said '3rd honk' and then never honked.

Mine has a butterfly valve in it that bellow 4000 rpm it would be closed.

I vote it be seized and given to me.

I just love the look of the B5.5 Passat with the xenon headlights. Gorgeous.

That's not a stock muffler then. That's a modified one.
I'm with ddavidn.
I'd like to see a 1/4 mile test with a totally stock system vs your modified system. Louder does not necessarily = faster.

I made mine louder, because I wanted louder. It's a hell of a lot easier to learn how to drive a stick when you can hear the engine bellow 4K. The Muffler is 100% stock, it's just disconnected from the vacuum line. I cut out the resonators because my cats failed. Those were replaced with Magnaflow 49 state legals and some stainless pipe.

Which is all fine if that's what you want, unless it's "too loud", which I can't tell from here. My initial reaction anytime I hear somebody else's obnoxiously loud exhaust is disdain. That can change when I see the car, but usually not.

It's loud, but not rice fart

Well it's all good then!
I'll never forget the day I was sitting at a light, waiting for my lane's turn, windows open minding my own business, when the harley next to me with straight pipes (conveniently angled out to the side towards me, so not quite straight) got a green light, nailed the throttle and blasted my eardrums off. It was a direct blast to my ears. My head was ringing for an hour. I almost went after the guy. I don't think he intended to do anything towards me, specifically, but I feel like that volume level was criminal.
I understand that some engines are too hard to quiet down, or need to breathe just a little more than stock. But "too loud" really gets me riled up.
